Did you know, that our attorneys have vast experience in directing and conducting workplace investigations for employers? These services can range from advice and counseling on legal issues, to directing and conducting the investigation as the employer’s outside counsel.
In this article, we spotlight FDA&R Partner Melanie Williamson. Melanie focuses on defending employers in civil litigation, defending civil rights claims, and assisting employers with labor & employment law issues. Prior to joining FDA&R, Melanie served as a staff attorney for the Ohio Department of Education’s Office of Professional Conduct. While there she investigated allegations of conduct unbecoming to the teaching profession and initiated disciplinary action against educators’ credentials. Melanie conducted investigations, made disciplinary recommendations, and provided testimony at Chapter 119 administrative hearings.
Melanie’s practice experience and background make her especially suited to help employers through difficult workplace investigations. She provides the knowledge of an employment attorney with the background of an experienced investigator and the insight of a trial attorney. Among other useful tips, Melanie advises employers to: “Thoroughly document all steps of the investigation. This not only helps an employer to more accurately determine the appropriate course of action but it also provides a basis or justification for any decision made should that decision be challenged later.”
