Fishel Downey Albrecht & Riepenhoff LLC represents clients across Ohio with a focus on public entities and officeholders, municipalities, small businesses and corporations, and risk pools and insurance companies. The purpose of the open paralegal position is to support the firm’s attorneys on litigation along with some labor and employment matters. Competitive salary, starting at $75,000 + commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits

Primary Responsibilities

  • Litigation Support:
    • Prepare initial requests for discovery and assist attorneys in evaluating sufficiency of received discovery responses.
    • Attend client meetings regarding discovery matters.
    • Prepare health record authorizations and coordinate directly with providers.
    • Draft summaries of health records, identifying most relevant injuries, conditions, treatments, etc.
    • Prepare subpoenas for records and witnesses and handle related communications.
    • Prepare and organize trial and deposition exhibits.
    • Attend trials to manage courtroom technology, assist with exhibits, and otherwise support attorneys.
  • Employment Support:
    • Address public records requests, including drafting responses, assembling pertinent records, and completing necessary redactions.
    • Assist in preparations for arbitrations, fact-finding hearings, workplace investigations, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong spelling and proofreading skills.
  • Good software skills (e., Word, Excel, PDF, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and produce quality work.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task, with adaptability to changing demands from multiple attorneys.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools (Lexis) and familiarity with federal and state e-filing systems.
  • Proficiency with e-Discovery platforms and the production and review of electronically stored information.

 Credentials and Experience

  • A paralegal degree (Bachelor’s or Associate’s) OR an active paralegal certificate.
  • At least 3 years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified, with previous law firm experience strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for court appearances and records retrieval.
  • Experience with TrialDirector software preferred but not required.
